New sim card for my contract phone?

I just got a new phone on contract with Vodafone, but the price plan is not what I wanted, and now can't change 'til probably some time into my contract. I was wondering, if I bought a new pay monthly sim card on Vodafone, I would have to still pay for the one I've already got?
