Why do spokesmen for law firms say they are a 'non-attorney spokesperson'?

It's a form of disclaimer. If the announcer says something the company can't deliver, he's off the hook because he's not an attorney, who might be held to a higher standard of knowing what's possible and what's not. "Give us your business and you'll win any suit in any court" is a pretty unlikely claim to make, but if you get a non-attorney spokesman to say that, you can put the idea in a potential customer's head without actually having to live up to the promise. That's what other advertisers do- "Buy our car and you'll be the sexiest man on the planet." "Buy our deodorant and you'll be the prettiest woman alive!" So this commercial says, "We're the best law firm. But you don't have to believe me because I'm just the spokesperson." I reckon that's an effective commercial for the gullible. Take care!
